Artist bio

Elizabeth was born into a family of successful artists and designers in Santa Fe, New Mexico – a region known for its rich blend of traditional and contemporary art inspired by its landscape, culture and history.

Her grandmother, Pauline Cable, founded Nambé in 1951, a company which grew to produce high-end home accessories now sold worldwide. Elizabeth’s parents, Anne and Fred Ortiz, owned and operated Nambé for several years, growing the brand to the point where it was sold in “A”-stores like Bloomingdales and Macy’s.

They also owned art galleries and foundries, which produced the works of many famous artists. So it’s no surprise her love of art began at an early age. While most kids were playing with toys, Elizabeth was busy creating pieces out of clay, wax and metal at her family’s gallery and foundry.

After moving to Los Angeles in 1998, her work caught the eye of the Beverly Hills and global design community. She soon began to receive commissions from some of the world’s leading architects and interior designers. Since then, she has continued to push the boundaries of what is possible, creating stunning artwork for both commercial and residential environments.

As a sculptor and painter, Elizabeth was trained in the family businesses in various media and techniques. Her talents also evolved under the tutelage of many well-known artists and design professionals.

Artist statement

Art is a form of exploration for me. Each piece I create is an invitation to experience something new, to see the world through a different lens.

My work blends traditional techniques with contemporary approaches. This results in pieces that have an eternal and organic component to them, while also introducing a unique twist.

They resonate with viewers because they evoke a sense of familiarity – and at the same time, carry an element of surprise.
